The 15 Worst White NBA Ballers of the Last Twenty Years
So now that you have all had a chance to analyze and criticize my choices for the top twenty white players of the last twenty years, it’s time for me to break you guys off with my selections for the worst white ballers of the last twenty years.
There are a few things that went into my completion of this list. It’s not just about who had the least talent, but more about what you contributed to your team. As such guys like Kurt Rambis or Mark Madsen would never make this list. Yeah they weren’t known for being very talented players, but none of them were a detriment to their team. If anything their hustle and their spirit contributed more positively to a team than most would expect. The players that make this list will not only be players with poor talent, but also over-hyped and over paid players (i.e players that made All-Star salaries but never averaged more than 5.5 ppg in a season.). If the acquisition of a player single-handedly ruined a franchise, then that player is most likely going to be on this list.
As with my 20 best list, a player can qualify for this if they are white and played high school or college basketball in the U.S. As well, borderline white boys such as Aaron Williams cannot make the list.
When compiling this list I came to one conclusion. And that is that for some reason that I can’t put my finger on, GMs love to fall in love with and then overpay goofy, un-athletic white seven footers. Its one thing if the seven-footer is Andrew Bogut or Kevin McHale, and a whole other thing if the player is say Paul Shirley. The NBA and it’s fans need to have a campaign similar to the DARE to keep kids off drugs campaign. It should be something like just say no to seven foot white boys with army style crew cuts…
One disturbing trend I picked up on while compiling this list is the fact that some of these terrible players were some of the highest paid, highest drafted players of their particular time. Also, a majority of these players have championship rings. This is just completely unfair when you consider that guys like Karl Malone or John Stockton retired without rings. Lastly, how does a guy like Will Purdue play over ten years in the league when a guy with talent like Harold Miner only play four NBA seasons? It makes absolutely NO sense.

Marty Conlon
Marty Conlon makes this list not so much because he wasn’t a decent player, but because he had the ugliest looking free-throw form known to man. Let’s just put it this way: His free-throw form made Bill Cartwright’s seem like a thing of beauty. I’m probably still holding animosity toward him for deciding to seemingly only have good games against the Lakers. I remember coming to school early in the 94 season being disgraced by the fact that my Lakers had gotten their asses kicked by Conlon the night before. So I guess this is how I extract my revenge.
Paul Shirley
The Guys has pretty much given up pursuing a professional basketball career to be a full-time sports blogger. That’s all you need to know. When you look him up on Wikipedia, there’s more about his sports blogging that his actual basketball career. With the dearth of big men in the league, you know you have no game if you’re a 6’10 young big man that can’t stick with a team.
Joe Wolf
This guy gets put on the list for sporting a mullet up through the new millennium. Joe is one of the nicer guys on this list and seemingly wasn’t really overpaid. But there simply was no justification for that damn mullet. In the mid-nineties he played with Shaquille O’neal and the Orlando Magic and quickly became a fan favorite (As almost every sorry big white guy normally does). Every time he would score a bucket in Orlando they would play this ridiculous wolf howl sound effect. It would have been cool if wolf was actually intimidating, but obviously this wasn’t the case. Wolf played 11 seasons averaging 1.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per contest. With numbers like those, I’m surprised the Hawks or Sonics didn’t offer him some ridiculous 5 year, $50 million contract.
Greg Kite
The first rule of becoming an NBA GM is never to draft a 7 foot white guy from Brigham Young who has “potential”. GK was the worst player on the Celtics 84 and 86 championship teams. As McHale and Parish’s bucket boy Kite averaged a tremendous 2.5 points and 3.8 rebounds for his career.
John Koncak
Known to many as simply John Contract, in 1989 Koncak was a nothing back up center when the Hawks (who were fearful that he might sign with Detroit) bit on his bluff and signed him to a ridiculous six year $13 million deal. I know it doesn’t seem like much in today’s terms, but this deal made Koncak a higher paid player than Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson. This deal is what many critics believed open the flood gates for many sorry ass over-hyped players getting paid ridiculous long term guaranteed contracts (see: the rest of the stiffs on this list).
Jim McIlvaine
The guy single-handedly ruined the career of Shawn Kemp. You see, after Shawn Kemp spent the entire summer of 96 posturing for a new contract, the Sonics ignored him and instead spent their money on another big white stiff named Jim McIlvaine. They gave him a five year $35 million contract based on “potential”. By signing McIlvaine to a higher salary than they were paying Kemp, they totally angered both Kemp and his teammate Gary Payton and caused a team that was on the verge of wining an NBA championship to implode. Kemp would start to hit the bottle and eventually force the Sonics to trade him for another soon to be alcoholic in Vin Baker. (I guess Seattle really is a depressing city.) McIlvaine would go on to be a complete bust (who would have thunk it?), averaging a tremendous 2.7 points and 3.1 rebounds during his illustrious (?) career.
Jack Haley
When I hear Jack Haley commentate for the FSN West during Laker games I have to laugh. How does this guy have any credibility? I mean he has to be one of the worst players to EVER play in the NBA. Is there that much lack of height in the NBA that big stiffs such as Haley stay in the league for almost 10 seasons? Haley probably played two to three extra seasons because he was friendly with Dennis Rodman and deemed as the one guy that could keep him under control. This distinction caused both the Bulls and the Spurs to keep Haley on their roster while Rodman was a member of their team. Not only was Haley terrible on the court, but now off the court he has become an even worse commentator. During the 2005 season, he was the idiot that guaranteed that the Lakers had completed a deal for Carlos Boozer when no one else close to the situation knew of any such pending transaction. Haley continued this rant for three straight days until the trade deadline came and passed with no transaction occurring. L.A. Times page two columnist TJ Simers used this opportunity to grind the hell out of Haley for about a week straight. The fact that he has a championship ring and a player like Charles Barkley doesn’t just makes me sick to my stomach. Haley was just a terrible player and today he’s an even worse commentator.
Travis Knight
Travis Knight made a name for himself as a Rookie with the Lakers during the 1997 Season. A lot of GMs fell in love with him for his ability to hit an open jump shot. With the Lakers he figured out that if you are on the court with Shaq and you are smart enough to cut to the rim, even a guy with a completely weak game can seem like he has some sort of game. Shaq would hook him up with tons of lay ups, and the announcers would always comment on how good of a player Knight was. Knight even had the great Chick Hearn fooled. Speaking of fools, Knight was a free agent after his Rookie year and played his amazing cutting ability into a ridiculous deal with Boston Celtics. Of course the most brilliant GM in the world (Rick Pitino) gave him a ton of money. How does a rookie year with stats of 4.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game equate to a seven year $22 million contract? I’m obviously in the wrong business.
Anyhow, after bamboozling Pitino, Knight would only stick around a year before being traded back to the Lakers. The Lakers reacquired him via trade by sending the Celtics Tony Battie. Battie just happened to be the same guy the Lakers had just acquired for the rights to Nick Van Exel. So basically the Lakers traded Nick at Night for Travis fucking Knight. I guess that was the one Jerry West bumble?
Knight would go on to put up (Jim) Mcilvainian type numbers for the rest of his career, finishing up with averages of 3.4 points and 3.10 rebounds for his career. Oh to be white a seven footer. Knight does have one record to hang his hat on. I believe he has the record for fastest to foul out of an NBA game.
Mike Penberthy
The Lakers picked up Penberthy for the 2001 Season to act as a three point specialist. Penberthy was a pretty accurate three point shooter, but he couldn’t do much else. He was a liability on defense and slower than the first CD burners. The fact that he only lasted 1 ¼ seasons in the league tells you all you need to know about him.
Danny Ferry
Danny definitely falls into the category of “franchise killer”. The poster child for over-hyped white Duke players, Ferry (behind Shawn Bradley) might be the worst second overall pick in the history of the NBA. After the Clippers drafted Ferry 2nd overall in 1989, Ferry refused to play for their lowly franchise and instead opted to play in Europe for a season before forcing the Clippers hand and getting traded to the up and coming Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs traded their young star Ron Harper for Ferry. This would probably go down as one of the more intelligent deals the Clippers would ever make as well as the deal that killed any chances the Cavs had at a championship. Ferry was a stiff with a stand still jump shot. He couldn’t run or jump, but he was white, tall, and had a daddy that was a former NBAer, so he was pretty much guaranteed to have a ten year career. Go figure. Imagine if those Cavs team from the early 90s would have had Harper starting at two guard with Mark Price instead of Craig Ehlo. I’m sure the Cavalier at YAY Sports has spent many a moment wondering the same thing.
Joe Klein
Look, just because he was a seven-footer with red hair doesn’t mean that he was destined to be the next Bill Walton. Klein is best known for his back up center days in Boston, Phoenix, and Chicago. After the Bulls won their 5th championship in 1997, Klein supposedly started crying, to which Michael jokingly reacted by saying: “What the hell are you crying for? I’m the one that went out and won the damn thing!” Somehow Joe Klein played 15 seasons. During his career he averaged around 4 points and 4 rebounds per contest. Too bad he wasn’t ever a free agent during Rick Pitino’s reign as Celtics GM, because he certainly would have been offered a 7 year, $70 million deal…based on his potential of course….
Will Perdue
Will Perdue was just not a very good NBA player. I think I can safely say that he is the worst player in the history of the NBA to have four championship rings (Yeah I know John Salley has four rings, but at least he was good at some point in his career). Perdue averaged 4.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game over a thirteen year career. During his stint with the Bulls, he did nothing but cause grief and frustration for the Bulls coaching staff. I’m sure both he and Stacey King were major contributors to Phil Jackson’s future heart troubles. He’s another player who’s potential would always be talked about through the early part of his career. Are you kidding me?!?!?! Some of these scouts really must be blind or something, because only a blind man would put the word potential next to the name Will Perdue. That is unless we are talking about someone being potentially bad. Perdue did end up aiding the Bulls a bit when they duped the San Antonio Spurs to trading Dennis Rodman to them for the rights to Perdue. That has to be one of the more one-sided deals of the last 20 years.
Tom Tolbert
Although Tom Tolbert wasn’t that terrible, he makes this list simply because of the way he talks about his career today. The way he speaks about his playing days, you would think he was an All-Star. He’s very Jack Haley like in that sense. Tolbert was the weed carrier/towel boy/bench warmer for the famed Run TMC Warrior teams of the late 80s/early 90s. You know you’ve had a whack career when your entire wikipedia profile mentions a sentence about your playing career and a couple paragraphs about your broadcast career.
Eric Montross
Eric Montross was another in the long line of poor Boston Celtics draft picks during the early 90s. Montross made a name for himself playing for the North Carolina Tarheels. He was a member of their famed 1993 championship team that stunned the “fab five” Michigan team in the National Final. Montross was selected 9th overall by the Boston Celtics in the 1994 NBA draft. During his career, Eric averaged 4.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 0.6 blocks and 0.4 assists per game. He played in 465 games and started 263. This would be fine for a second round pick, but is just unacceptable for a guy selected 9th overall. Again, was there such a need for the big guy in the NBA that guys like Montross could collect an NBA sized check for 11 seasons? It’s just not fair…
Todd Fuller
When Golden State Warrior fans complain of Mike Dunleavy Jr.’s ineptitude, I only have to bring up one name to make them realize that Dunleavy isn’t really that bad. Of course I am talking about none other than Todd Fuller. Fuller was the number 11 overall pick of the 1996 draft. I know this is difficult to consider, but he was actually drafted ahead of Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash. Obviously the Warriors brass knew how to run a franchise. Fuller would stick around for five years averaging a measly 3.7 points and 3 rebounds per contest.
Shawn Bradley
He was tall, and had a nose for blocking shots. But he was also the number two overall pick of the 1993 draft. With that comes the responsibility of becoming at least a halfway decent player. Bradley would go on to become more known for getting dunked on and getting into random on court altercations than actually contributing to the good of his basketball teams. Someone please tell these GMs that white plus height does not equal future all-star. Anyhow, check the You Tube highlight below. In less than one minute, Eddie Jones manages to embarrass him not once, but twice. Check it out.

Now, this is what blogs are for. Well done.
I think you're forgetting one Ryan Bowen. If you recall, last year against the mavericks IN THE PLAYOFFS he was the alleged Dirk-stopper. He actually started games, where he routinely got torched and wouldn't even look at the basket when he touched the ball. I hate everything he represents
I agree with Todd. Nice work. There is one flaw on the diamond though. Greg effin Foster. You seem a Laker fan. How could you leave him off of the list???
Awesome video of the cylops Shawn Bradley getting ruled by Eddie Jones. Geez that guy sucked ass. Good freakin blog.
Alex the Clipper Fan
Is Greg Foster white. I think he is somewhere in that Jason Kidd/Mike Bibby racial zone...
Conlon and Penberthy are priceless picks.
Obviously, Sam Bowie was the worst 2nd pick of all time. How could you forget that? Don't give me the "But they had Clyde Drexler" excuse, because the Rockets had ROY, Ralph 7'4" Sampson, and they STILL drafted "Akeem."
Then there are Jay Williams and Len Bias (too soon?).
Exactly...this is why blogs exist. Good call on Tolbert lying to himself about his halcyon days. Dude's the NBA answer to Sean Salisbury. No room for Christian Welp, though?
Sam Bowie was not actually as bad as people think. It's just they rag on him because he was picked ahead of Jordan. Bowie at least averaged double figures for his entire career, while Ferry didn't even come close to doing that. Bowie's main problem was that he was injury prone.
I've said this once I've said this twice, Mike fucking Smrek. Need I repeat it again. Also worth noting, John Crotty and Tony Bennet. Nice work.
I agree Ferry was a waste, but Shawn Bradley wasn't. Bradley averaged 2 fewer points and half a rebound-less than Bowie their first 10 seasons, but he also averaged a full block more, AND played two-more seasons. Yes, some people liked to dunk on him, but people like to dunk on everyone that's freakishly tall (except, perhaps, Mark Eaton). He was still an incredibly effective defensive deterrent against players.
Plus, you have to remember who was in the 1993 draft. Do you build a franchise around then-J.R. Rider? Allan Houston? I would have gone with Calbert Cheaney (because I hated Bobby Hurley), and I would have been horribly, horribly wrong.
Point taken Anonymous...But I think I would have taken a player by the name of Penny Hardaway with that pick. He was an All-NBA type player for the first five to six years of his career until the injuries started to mount. Mashburn would have also been a solid pick. He had a very good career.
Weiss: Smrek was terrible...my bad for missing that one.
But John Crotty and Bennett were both serviceable players...
Also Bradley shot less than 45% from the field despite the fact that he was 7'6". That's just unacceptable.
I'm sorry, but no mention of Brian Cardinal? His contract might go down as one of the Logo's biggest mistakes. The money he makes for being a better shooting Mark 'Mad Dog' Madsen is just unacceptable.
You love Jerry West! Anyhow, Cardinal at least hustles, and contributes to the teams he has been on. And he is not that bad. But the Mike Smrek ommission is unforgiveable. I don't know how I missed that one.
Well done. Being the lifelong Nuggets fan, I'd say you have three glaring omissions:
1. Raef Lafrentz
2. Danny Schayes
3. Blair Rasmussen
My childhood was filled with my father yelling at Schayes for being a "sack of balls" or Rasmussen "a f**king slug."
I feel you on Schayes, he was one of those guys that when he played announcers would talk more about his dad (Dolph) than anything else. I think he and Ferry probably owe their long careers to their father's legacy. But LaFrentz has at least been serviceable. Not worth $10 Mil plus per season, but is it his fault that the Nuggets gave him that deal?
Nate...please, I have a higher vertical leap than both Crotty and Bennett. Though I will give you that they were both a cut above Penberthy.
Mike Jaffe and I used to call John Crotty John Crotch...
How about Judd Buechler? I was in elementary school when the Bulls were winning championships and even then I could tell he sucked. I think there needs to be a top 15 Worst Beige Players list too, cause Felton Spencer, Ira Newble and Keith Closs need some recognition.
Just because you are a role player doesn't mean you suck. Buechler was a good role player. But Keith Closs was definitely the worst "Beige" Player to ever tuch a basketball. Did you see him get beat up on that Death Row Record DVD? The worst part about it is that it was by some girl. I wonder what Closs is up to now...
adam keefe would be considered a stiff even amongst this group
christian welp belongs on the 15 worst white euro ballers list, headed by uwe blab
Great list, loved the old-school Eddie Jones clip.
Do you remember Chuck Nevitt. He only saw floor when it was a blow out. 7' 5'', 17th pick, 11 seasons. He was a walking suitcase with 5 teams. If he was a role player, please tell me his roll. I actually remember an SI cover with him on it back in 88-89. The article was about him making his living as a freak show on the court.
Dude, I can't even lie...You have me stumped on Nevitt. Maybe I'll do some research and write up an entire post just for him. These are just the guys I remember as being bad. But I'm sure there are tons more. Thanks for the comments...
Keith Closs, who broke the NCAA college record for shot blocking previously held by David Robinson, and was said to be the next Yinka Dare, is now the starting center for Orange County's ABA team.
As much as it pains me to say it, you're right about Raef. he had a few serviceable years post-KU. The Nuggets like to throw money at servicable players (K-Mart anyone?) I think the Mavs/Celtics got screwed more than anyone with Raef. $70M over 7 years? Yikes.
It's still too early to hate on him, but will Darko one day join the pantheon of Great White Dopes? A no2 draft pick was wasted on him in what was perhaps the deepest draft ever.
Sure, he can still turn out good. And there's that whole "oh if the Pistons had drafted Carmelo instead it would ruin the chemistry". But think about this for a minute, how good would the Pistons be now with Chris Bosh coming off the bench?
Please don't forget about Bill Curley.
Some other great super white stiffs included (and as a Kings/Warriors fan going back to 1990s I watched many of these guys in action)...
1) Les Jepsen
2) Randy Breuer
3) Uwe Blab
4) Greg Nestle
5) Russ Sheone
6) Chris Corchiani
7) Jim Spanarkel
8) Matt Fish
9) Mike Peplowski
Great Blog.... I liked the video at the end where eddie jones schooled shawn bradley like 4 times. RIDICULAS... but look where eddie ended up. He was on the heat last year and he missed 2 really really important free throws.. we lost in the 7th game 2 detroit. Now this year we dont have him and we're going 2 the final's.... GO HEAT, GO HEAT...
Fellas...how can we forget Chris Dudley?
Because Dudley was one of the better rebounders/defenders around during his day. That's the only reason he stuck around. He was even a starter for most of his career. But he did have ZERO offensive ability, and was an even worse free throw shooter than Shaq
How can we forget the big clumsy from OSU.....Bryant Big Country Reaves, big ugly shatters a backboard before the final 4 and becomes a top draft pick, Grizzlies fell for that one.
Because big country had a decent career. Back injuries are what slowed him down...
I'm not quite sure how this list can be considered complete without the super mullet redneck master Dwayne Schintzius who played on the nationally prominent florida gators in the late 80's and was known for attacking two citizens outside a nightclub with a tennis racket. Already considered a laughingstock of the SEC, he was somehow drafted with the 24th pick in the first round by the spurs on draft day and traded to the kings in 1991.
Although waived by the kings after '92, he was picked up by the nets and went on to spend 8 illustrious careers averaging 2.7 points per game and never playing more than 42 games in any season.
How could this buffoon have been left off?
Man, how could I have forgotten him. I loved when Ahmad Rashad would make fun of his name on inside stuff...He was pretty bad...my bad, man!
CHUCK NEVITT.
Shawn Bradley can't fight. I remember seeing him getting a piledriver in a fight.
good call on Neviitt and Shintzuis. A very welll thought out and argued list. I would add two names - Randy Breuer and Ed Nealy. Nealy didn't even have height on his side, abd averaged almost as many fouls as points in his 10 year career. His one highlight was geting hit in the face with the ball by MJ.....Breuer was just a liability to any team he played on and possibly the biggest stiff on the Bob Weis led Hawks bench.....
What about David Wood? When you mention Joe Wolf and his mullet you can't omit Wood. He "produced" a career average of 3.9 points and 2.4 rebounds while playing for eight teams within seven seasons. That's a bust!
Ed Neely, nuff said
nice list, but one name that definitely deserves to be on there is ALEC KESSLER... dude was straight sanitation
c'mon now...Penberthy came out of nowhere...in fact a lowly NAIA program (Masters'). give the guy a break!
as a Sonics fan I was completely blown away by the lack of respect the organization showed Kemp by giving that worhtless piece of crap Macillvane that huge contract.
Now I can only dream of what may have been if the Sonics could have had a happy/healthy Kemp & Payton play for another 2-3 yrs together.
I've got a few that you left off. What was the love that the Celtics had for useless white guys?
1. Fred Roberts
2. Serge Zwicker
3. Damon Bailey
4. Greg Ostertag
This list could go on forever.
Soon to be on your list, once he's relegated to the D-league...the one, the only, Rafael Araujo.
Did anyone forget Mokeski and Breuer from the late 80's Bucks?
what about the 15 worst black players?
Now, if one was to compile a list of the worst black players of all time, that would be deemed 'racism.' But nice try..If you actually are African-American, just shows how much one can get away with the race topic on the other side of the plain.
What about Luke Jackson?
Tolbert doesn't need to be on this list. He was servicable and has decent numbers.
No Cherokee Parks?
i have to agree with one of the first posters:
GREG F'in FOSTER!
No way you left off Bill Winington
and Brad Sellers from the Bulls late 80s, early 90s teams. (sorry Brad was'nt a white guy.)
ridiculous to say shawn bradley or danny ferry is the worst second overall pick ever. How about Sam Bowie over Charles Barkley and John Stockton. Oh yeah, and Michael Jordan.
You can't bash a high draft pick just because the guys behind him did better. Bowie wasn't horrible, and Darko may have a solid career. You can't knock these guys just because the GM's that drafted them were boneheads. Bashing Tom Tolbert though, not cool, possibly the best announcer/radio host around, at least the funniest.
PAUL MOKESKI
Great post man... I'd only suggest to replace Perdue (who has had a decent career) with Brett Szabo (remember him?), who lasted only one season with the Celtics and did nothing at all...
Then I agree with others, Greg Foster should've been in this list as well. I live in Italy and he used to play here when our league wasn't as good as it is today (Radja and Kukoc were the only europeans playing in the US at that time) and I can tell you that: 1) he is white, 2) he sucked over here also :-)
As other nominees, I wouldn't have left out Bill Curley, Russ Schoene (at least he played decently over here) and of course, Richard Petruska (Houston Rockets), Jiri Zidek (Charlotte Hornets), Cheeroke Parks (Minnesota), Zan Tabak (Houston), Robert Archibald (Toronto), Michael Bradley (Toronto), Brad Lohaus (ok, might not have been that bad, but I simply hated seeing him playing :-), Dan O'Sullivan and, of course, Dan Langhi (Bucks)... He also sucked in Europe (lot of POOR games).
In my opinion, Bradley and Klein were at least a little useful to their teams... players above pretty much not.
I agree though... Conlon, Ferry and Haley are priceless picks!
Good Job!

2 time league leader and 5 triple double..?
Ohh Shawn we hardly knew ye
I know I'm a couple years late to comment on this blog, but I wanted to defend Greg Kite. He was never expected to be anything than what he was -- a hard-nosed 11th man who practiced hard and could give 5 or 10 quality minutes a night if McHale or Parrish got into foul trouble. Kite could hold his own guarding any center, including Kareem. He just couldn't shoot. Or pass. Or catch.
Speaking of BYU guys, you give Shawn Bradley way too much credit. He had no instincts for rebounding or blocking shots, and he would throw elbows when he got frustrated.
Excellent blog entries -- both this one and the one on the best 20 white guys. I was just having this argument with a friend, so I was trying to figure out if Kirk Hinrich really is the best American-born white player.
Great article! I have to wonder if Scot Pollard and Greg Ostertag might qualify for that list. Anyway, I enjoyed it very much. There were some throwbacks mentioned here that I haven't thought about in a long time.
Here's a somewhat related post about white American players in the NBA that eventually led me to this after a google search:
http://www.rootzoo.com/threads/view/114565/
Nice work again.
i'm only two years late on replying to this blog but i couldn't resist.
i just wanted to comment that i thoroughly enjoyed it. i also wanted to say that, growing up a bucks fan in the 80s, i'm a bit disappointed to not see any of our 7' goofs on this list.
i still recall a video my brother and a friend made for a high school film class. it was right after jordan's video "come fly with me" came out (which is no doubt what they used as ammunition for their parody)....i can't remember what they titled their 7minute video, but the theme music was "stand by me" and "lean on me" and was strictly clips of randy breuer, paul mokeski, frank brikowski, and danny shayes leaning on (or standing next to) a player that was about to blow past them. ....needless to say, it was a hillarious video, and this post brought back some great memories...
Funny as hell. Glad I found your blog. Playing ball in OC in the late 80s we would rag on each other's games with Mike Smrek references. He was the Lakers version of Kite. Chuck Nevitt played for two great franchises, Lakers and Pistons, and sucked ballz.
OMG, this list was fucking hilarious!!!
I was searching for the year jon (no "H" in jon because he has no heart)koncak was the highest paid player in the league and I came across this blog. I was laughing my ass off while reading this list. Most of these stiffs I remember watching in college and in the NBA and they were indeed terrible.
Sidebar: When people talked about the salaries in the NBA, they kept mentioning the Kevin Garnett contract as the one that brought in the salary cap. But what these EXACT same people REFUSE to admit is that the koncak and mcilvaine contracts were the catalyst for the salary explosions in the first place!!!
P.S. What about Uwe Blab?, Greg Dreiling, Chris Dudley, Joel Przybilla, or Greg Ostertag???
Well done dog!!!!
Where is "Big Country"!!!
Being a Bucks fan, I've gotta give them their due for the highest percentage of crap white guys for their Ivory Towers front lines of the 80's. Think about this: Randy Breuer, Paul Mokeski, Frank Brickowski, Brad Lohaus, Fred Roberts, Jack Sikma, and Joe Wolf (who's from WI, too) all played on the same team in some combination over a short period. At least three of them were on the team at the same time for 10 years!
Plus, Jordan calling Will Perdue "Will Vanderbilt" because he wasn't good enough to rate a Big 10 school - best dis ever.
I'm old so I went at these guys instead:
http://poisonousparagraphs.blogspot.com/2008/04/dart-adams-presents-scrubs-theyre-no.html
Oh, Chuck Nevitt was GODAWFUL.
One.
I can't believe that this guy hasn't been mentioned but I guess he was so annonymous that y'all didn't even notice him.
Cezary Trybanski played in 22 NBA games over 2 seasons averaging 0.7 points and rebounds during that time and shooting just 21% from the field. The resaon that he needs a mention is that he was paid $4.8 million (thats $320K per point)on a 3 year contract to do this! The Grizzlies, Suns, Bulls and Knicks all contributed to this disaster.
Anyone top that???
